How to choose your bed linen to combine comfort, style and durability?
What size should I choose? Linen or cotton? Plain or printed patterns? So many questions that sometimes remain a real headache... Yet, they are not to be taken lightly. As much in terms of comfort as decoration. To help you choose your ideal bed linen, here are some tips.
LARGE OR SMALL SPACE FANS: WHAT SIZE SHOULD YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR BEDDING SET?
Your bedding set should be adapted to the size of your bedding. For example, a single bed will require a duvet cover measuring 140 x 200 cm, while a double bed set will typically have the following dimensions: 200 x 200 cm, 240 x 220 cm, or 260 x 240 cm. The fitted sheet, meanwhile, should be proportional to the size of your mattress. If it measures, for example, 120 x 190 x 30 cm, the fitted sheet size should be the same. Finally, pillowcases come in several sizes: a square pillowcase measures 65 x 65 cm, while a rectangular pillowcase measures 50 x 70 cm.
PERCALE, COTTON, LINEN: WHICH MATERIAL SHOULD YOU CHOOSE FOR AN IDEAL NIGHT’S SLEEP?
It depends on your desires and tastes, but also on the quality of textile you are looking for.
- Cotton percale: This is a high-quality cotton. It offers a soft, cozy feel and is durable. A first step toward satin.
- Cotton sateen: a fine, tightly woven material. It's considered high-end thanks to its silky feel. You'll feel like you're wearing hotel sheets.
- Linen: This plant-based fabric is made from flax fibers. It's highly durable and also popular for its slightly wrinkled, fresh finish. It lets your skin breathe in both summer and winter.
- Organic cotton: it's good for the planet, but it's also good for our homes. Soft and fresh, it's perfect for simple everyday moments.
HOW TO WASH YOUR BED LINEN?
Rule #1: Wash your bedding every two weeks, summer and winter. Think your bedding likes to be nice and warm in the washing machine? You're right! It should be washed at a temperature between 60°C and 90°C maximum. However, some materials, like silk, prefer the cold: be sure to read the care labels carefully.
For all this, you also need a suitable detergent . Our skin is in direct contact with bed linen. So, for the most sensitive skin, turn to a hypoallergenic and preservative-free detergent.
Finally, the last step: drying! You can dry your bed linen outdoors or in a tumble dryer, but check the care label recommendations first.
